John Filion's Voting Record:Votes supporting the community position: 5Votes against the community position: 0
In the last term on council, John Filion's voting record placed him in the “mushy middle,” but what is more notable is that he missed many of the most important votes. In the fourteen votes followed by VoteToronto he missed six, a higher total than any other councillor. However, he was an early supporter of David Miller's mayoral campaign, and one of the few suburban councillors to support Miller. He voted against the bridge in December 2003, and has emerged as one of the few councillors to voice concerns about police oversight, in his role on the Police Services Board. John Filion is on the Planning and Transportation Committee, the Toronto Police Services Board and the Toronto Board of Health. Ward 23, encompassing the western part of Willowdale, is one of the fastest growing parts of the city, expanding by 16.8% between 1996 and 2001. About one-fifth of the ward is Chinese. The ward is largely composed of homeowners, roughly evenly split between apartments and houses.
