During the last election Rob Ford was described by Now Magazine as “so
far right that even conservative councillors on council cringe.” Ford
is known for his antics of railing against the bureaucracy but in fact
he was a consistent Mel Lastman follower in the last council. The
exception was his support of increased funding for the TTC, the MFP
enquiry and his opposition to the Union Station Lease. Some have
predicted that Ford will be a leader of the Miller opposition in the
new council but others point out that he lacks the respect of other
councillors to play that role. Ford was a member of the 'Keep the Chief' campaign to renew the contract of Police Chief Julian Fantino. Rob Ford is on the Administration Committee and was appointed to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. Demographically, Ward 2 has sizeable Italian and East Indian populations, and relatively high home ownership rates, at 60.7%, compared to a Toronto average of 50.7%.
